print & cut invitation
For each layer below, you will be able to get four out of an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet (A). (Remember that the top 1" of your layers will be tucked into the booklet backing. Make a practice copy first to make sure the text of your layers align properly.)
layer I: This is your unprinted decorative top sheet. Cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/8".
layer II: Print your invitation or announcement information on this layer and cut to 4 1/4" x 5 3/8".
assemble layers
Fold booklet backing along top score line. Arrange all of your layers in order and carefully insert into the flas of your backing (B).
Using the pre-punched holes of the booklet backing as a guide (C), punch through the invitation layers with a 1/8" hole punch (Carefully paper clipping the invitation together will securely hold your layers in place as you punch).
bind
style I - ribbon: Cut a 10" length of ribbon and tie a single square knot in the front of the invitation (see reverse side for instructions). Trim the ends of the ribbon. If you wish to make a bow, the length of your ribbon should be longer.
style II - eyelet: Place eyelet into hole. Flip invitation, back-side up, with eyelet face down. Place setting tool in back of eyelet. Hit setting tool with hammer to flatten eyelet.
style III - river reed: Select reed or twig and trim to about 3 1/2" with a utility knife or a tough pair of scissors. Cut a 10" length of linen thread. Thread each end through holes rom back, over twig, and back down through same holes (see below). Tie end together in back in a double knot. Trim ends.
style IV - button: (Use the basic binding technique as river reed-reference diagram above for the basic concept.) Cut a 10" length of linen thread. Feed half the length of thread through one hole of card, from back to front. Thread both sets of button holes. Feed thread back through the same hole of the card. To secure the second button, take one end of thread and run it through the remaining hole of the card from back to front. Run the thread through the first set of button holes. Pull taught against the card. Thread the remaining set of button holes. Feed the thread back through the hole of the card. Tie ends together.
fold
For all style: when finished binding, fold backing at the middle score line and tuck under the top flap.
