Katazome Papaya Poppy Flowers Vines Fine Paper

Japanese decorative papers reflect the superb craftsmanship, design sensibilities and rich variety of the Edo Period (1630 - 1868). This paper is printed using the Katazome or Wazome technique. Used both on textiles and paper it is a laborious technique that uses a stencil (kata) and gelatin paste to print the first or resist layer. The remaining colors are printed and the entire sheet is then washed to remove the paste layer underneath and reveal the pattern.

These lotus flowers in brilliant papaya, poppy and black are silkscreened on handmade Kozo paper. Ideally suited for bookbinding because of its strength and glueability, it is also excellent for origami, collage paper crafts, lampshades and card making.

Sheet size - 25 1/2" x 19"

Please note: Given the delicate nature of fine paper, all flat paper purchases are final sale.
