Japanese decorative papers reflect the superb craftsmanship, design sensibilities and rich variety of the Edo Period (1630 - 1868). Katazome papers are bold Japanese kimono style designs created by a very time-consuming stencil (resist dyeing) system.

This striking arabesque and stylized chrysanthemum pattern is stencil printed in red, burgundy and dark chocolate brown. The chrysanthemum is an ancient symbol of long life and virtue while the arabesque has been used on imperial clothing for centuries. Silkscreened on handmade Kozo paper it is ideally suited for bookbinding because of its strength and glueability. It is also excellent for origami, collage paper crafts, lampshades and card making.
